Summer Worship Opportunities for Children & Youth

From June 17 – September 2, we offer Word Walks for Children every Sunday during the 10 am service.  Children in elementary school are invited to:

  • Worship with families at the start of the 10 am service
  • Walk behind the cross during the hymn before the Gospel
  • Hear God’s Word in the Undercroft and return to families at the Peace.

During June & July, we will be following the lectionary lessons using materials from the Godly Play classroom.  Many of these lessons are found in The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name by Sally Lloyd-Jones.  We encourage you to order a copy to read at home and bring on your vacation!  In August, children will delve into an experiential learning opportunity with Praying In Color: Kid’s Edition by Sybil MacBeth with psalms found in Psalms for Young Children by Marie-Helene Delval. We are seeking adult or teen assistants to help Carol Brady during the walk. Sign up at the Window of Opportunity for the Sundays you are available. Thank you!

Older children worship with their families for the whole service. New this summer, we invite them to pray in a new way. Sybil MacBeth calls it Praying in Color and has written several books on the subject.  Sometimes we can’t find the words to express our thoughts to God, but we can draw them through color, shapes, and various designs.  Sometimes, it’s helpful to focus on one phrase of a liturgical prayer or line from the sermon — by copying it and doodling around it.  Youth can learn more about this prayer practice, by picking up a packet in the Narthex along with a clipboard and some colored pencils.

Nursery for those age 4 & under will be available for the 10 am service throughout the summer.
