Three Youth Programs At Trinity: Why? And When?

Youth at Trinity are getting involved in one, two, or three different program offerings on various Sundays. What are they? When do they meet? We offer:

  • The 5th – 8th grade church school class extension on certain Sundays
  • Confirmation classes (grades 9 & up) on the same Sundays as the 5th – 8th grade class extension days
  • Youth group (grades 6 & up) on most Sundays when the other two programs don’t meet.

The 5th– 8th Extension

Let’s start with the newest offering. This coming Sunday, September 30, and on other special Sundays, the 5th – 8th grade class will run from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. Around 10:45, they will rejoin the congregation during the Offertory Hymn, sit together to receive communion as a class, and then return to their classroom for more Christian faith and fellowship building until 11:30 am.  This is a great opportunity for middle school youth to bond with each other and develop Christian friendships. Some of the things they will do during this extra time are; share with each other their highs and lows of the week, maybe play a game, or plan their own outreach project or special event.  Helping them during this extra time are two active high school youth group members:  Hadley D’Esopo and Libby Loprete.  Doug Johnson, Marc Ubaldino and Garnet Glover will continue to be their adult supervisors and teachers. These special Sundays (September 30, October 25, November 11 & 25, and January 13) happen on the same Sundays as Confirmation Class.

Confirmation Class for Youth (grade 9th & up) is offered every other year.  This current group, led by Rev. Becky and Walter Birge, has already started and will continue to meet through January. They meet on the same special Sundays listed above from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm in Room 2. In addition, they will meet twice in December at 2:00 pm: December 9 & 16. This group will be confirmed on Saturday, January 26 in Boston. You can find their complete schedule HERE.

Youth Group (grade 6 & up) runs September through May in Room 2 typically from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. They meet on Sundays when there is no Confirmation Class, so that all youth can participate as one faith community! Youth are encouraged to bring their friends regardless of faith background. They typically meet every other Sunday, but sometimes, they plan events for other days and times, such as overnights, movie nights or game nights. Their Sunday meeting days are: September 23, October 14 & 21, November 4 & 18, December 2 & 16, January 6 & 27.

Middle School Retreat! Here’s our first special event for 6th – 8th graders! Join the fun and fellowship at the Diocesan Middle School Retreat from Friday, November 16 – Sunday, November 18 at the Barbara C. Harris Camp & Conference Center in NH. Several of our older youth are helping to plan and lead this weekend.  Here’s the link for information and registration. See Libby or Brooke!

All these program offerings seek to create a safe space among a circle of Christian friends to have some fun, raise questions about faith, pray together, and be aware of God’s loving presence in their lives and those around them. Building a strong Christian faith community among youth is the shared goal across all three of Trinity’s programs. The greater the participation, the stronger the community becomes.
